Mayan Temple in Tikal

It’s not hard to see how Mayan cities of old can be swallowed by the jungle. This temple in Tikal, Guatemala stands well above the nearby trees, and is adorned with a special room at the top for priests to perform rituals.Temple in Tikal.JPG

Mayan Ball Court

Restored and kept in pristine conditions, this ball court at Quirigua, Guatemala constantly has the jungle creeping back towards it. I found a few ripe avocado and mango trees just behind the structures in the background, and happily made a fresh snack from the fruit that had fallen.

Great Wall of China

In the royal garden

I hear a rhapsody,
of god’s voice
in the hum
of the afternoon cicada

I see the reflection
of a vast sky
and a vaster god
in the lotus pond
