Northern Lesser Anteater – Corcovado National Park, Costa Rica

We came close to a Norther Lesser Anteater (Tamandua mexicana) while hiking in Corcovado National Park, Costa Rica. The pattern on it’s coat was surprisingly beautiful, and it was quick to climb a tree once it noticed us – they have terrible eyesight and walked very close to us before it realized we were standing frozen on the trail next to it! Very strong smell, almost like a skunk, so if you’re hiking in the park and smell skunk, it’s most likely one of these!

Badwater Basin, Death Valley

Badwater basin 2014I visited Death Valley in February of 2014 and was lucky enough to see rain and even a small amount of water accumulation on the ground. The result were flowers erupting in small patches all over the barren looking landscape. My father and I spent more than a day driving though, hiking over, taking photos of and staring in marvel at the engulfing desert all around us.
